Today, January 22 marked the 100th birth anniversary of great Armenian composer, pianist, People’s Artist of the USSR and recipient of state awards Arno Babajanyan.

On the occasion of the anniversary, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia Vahram Dumanyan and his deputy Ara Khzmalyan, President of the Union of Composers of Armenia Aram Satyan, representatives of the intelligentsia, artists and the community of music lovers visited Yerevan City Pantheon and paid their respects to the composer.

Afterwards, the minister and the other attendees laid flowers near the statue of Arno Babajanyan to the sounds of the music composed by Babajanyan.

In his speech, Dumanyan said the music of Babajanyan needs to be heard everywhere in order to restore Armenians’ optimism and the will to live and create. He also informed that the government is setting up a governmental commission to coordinate the events dedicated to Arno Babajanyan’s birth anniversary.

The concert dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of Arno Babajanyan will take place at Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall at 7 p.m. The event will feature performances by violinist Anush Nikoghosyan, cellist Sevak Avanesyan and Merited Artist of the Republic of Armenia, pianist Hayk Melikyan.
