Former governor of Armenia’s Syunik Province Vahe Hakobyan is being politically persecuted, and his attorneys Eric Alexanyan and Zhirayr Gharagyozyan have issued a statement on this.

The statement reads as follows:

“Political persecutions continue in Armenia. There is information according to which law-enforcement authorities have received necessary instructions to start criminal prosecution against former governor of Syunik Province Vahe Hakobyan and deprive him of liberty. The authorities plan to launch the ‘legal’ procedure against Vahe Hakobyan by not only targeting the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine, but also by stopping him from being in politics with that action.

The law-enforcement authorities know very well that it is impossible to find anything that is illegal in the operation of Vahe Hakobyan or the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine, but the procedure will allow to undermine the operation of the Combine.

We claim that the plans of the Armenian authorities are exclusively political.”
