Air pollution rate in Beijing is eight times higher than the norm set by the World Health Organization; as per Beijing Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center, it is 190 micrograms per cubic meter, TASS reported.

In some regions, however, the figure has reached 197 micrograms.

The main causes of air pollution in China are traffic, coal power plants, and metallurgical enterprises.

For the same reason, at the end of 2013, the Chinese capital and some other major cities adopted a plan for emergency response to heavy air pollution.

As of 2019, China's spending on fighting air pollution has reached 25 billion yuans (approx. $3.73 billion).
