Over 30,000 Americans have abandoned the Republican Party in recent weeks after supporters of former US President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in Washington on January 6, Hill newspaper reported, citing statistics.

This is data from only a few US states, informing about voter registration and change of party affiliation. Thus, there may be much more of those who left the Republican Party.

On January 6, supporters of the incumbent US President Donald Trump stormed the building of the US Congress, interrupting the meeting at which the parliament was supposed to approve the results of the elections.

The US Congress has officially approved Biden's victory, and Trump condemned the violence in the Capitol and promised to guarantee a peaceful transfer of power.
