Transparency International has presented its Corruption Perceptions Index 2020, and Armenia ranked 60th with 49 points, compared to the last year when Armenia was taking 77th place.

Georgia (56 points), Armenia (49), and Belarus (47) became the leaders in positive dynamics in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia region.

Denmark ranks first in the world list, followed by New Zealand and Finland.

According to the report, the COVID-19 has exposed structural and ongoing governance issues, widespread corruption, and exacerbated social discontent.

Some political leaders have used the crisis to strengthen power, add restrictions to already limited access to information, remove transparency requirements from public procurement rules, and abandon public accountability mechanisms, the authors of the report noted.
