US President Joe Biden honored the memory of fellow citizens who died of the COVID-19 pandemic, TASS reported.

The American leader called on his compatriots to overcome the split in society caused by deep political contradictions. 

Biden, accompanied by his wife Jill, went to the South Portico of the White House, where 500 candles were burning, symbolizing the 500,000 COVID-19 victims. The first US married couple was joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff. Bowing their heads, the audience listened to the famous church hymn Amazing Grace, after which they returned to the White House.
