International partners of Georgia will very soon be convinced that protecting the honor of the state, enforcing the law, and decriminalizing politics will contribute to a qualitative reduction in polarization in the country, Sputnik-Georgia reported referring to Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of the Georgian Dream party.

The US embassy, NATO and EU were deeply concerned by the decision of the Georgian government to arrest the leader of the main opposition party at its headquarters this morning.

"Today we have heard a number of statements from international partners about the arrest of Nikanor Melia. It is understandable for us that international partners have fear in connection with the further polarization of political processes in Georgia, which may alienate the political system from Western standards of relations. However, our international partners will very soon be convinced that the road to reducing polarization goes precisely through the unswerving protection of the state, the implementation of the rule of law, and the principles of the rule of law," he noted.

He added that the past years have shown that the state's loyalty to crime in politics not only deepened the polarization and radicalization of political processes but also led to the sabotage of the parliament, which the radical opposition carried out, despite the many appeals of international partners.
