An extraordinary session of the Armenian parliament, which was initiated by the opposition parliamentary faction of the Prosperous Armenia party to discuss the internal political situation and the abolition of the martial law regime, did not take place, MP from the Prosperous Armenia party Iveta Tonoyan told reportrs.

The meeting, she said, fell apart due to the absence of deputies from the ruling My Step bloc.

“As we expected, the deputies from the authorities did not take part in the meeting of the Council of Parliament, which was supposed to decide the agenda of the extraordinary meeting,” the parliamentarian said.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia on February 25 demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, saying that the political leadership is leading the state to a dangerous brink. This happened after the head of the government dismissed the first deputy chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Tiran Khachatryan. In response, Pashinyan announced an attempted coup and called on citizens to gather in Republic Square in order to defend the revolution. He also said that he had signed a decision to dismiss Chief of the General Staff Onik Gasparyan from his post.
