The first coronavirus vaccination campaign has begun in Thailand. 200 public health workers received the Chinese Sinovac vaccine, AP reported.

Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul received the first injections at a hospital near Bangkok, followed by the Deputy Minister of Health and other senior officials.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, who attended the vaccination ceremony, said the public should be confident in the safety and efficacy of the vaccine as it has been approved by the authorities in Thailand and other countries.

Thailand received its first 200,000 doses of Sinovac on Wednesday. They are part of a government plan that has so far received 2 million doses from Sinovac and 61 million doses from AstraZeneca.

Thailand has over 25,000 confirmed cases and 83 deaths.
