Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian on Tuesday had a telephone conversation with Mark Lowcock, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.

Aivazian presented to Lowcock the humanitarian issues and socioeconomic problems facing the Armenians of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). According to the FM, as a result of the recent large-scale war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, tens of thousands of Artsakh Armenians have been forced to flee their homes, and now the priority is to take steps to restore their rights, and ensure their dignified and safe return.

During the conversation, the provision of humanitarian aid to the Armenians of Artsakh was highlighted. In this regard, the interlocutors agreed that appropriate conditions should be created to ensure the presence of international organizations in Artsakh, considering unacceptable the politicization of the implementation of this humanitarian function and the creation of artificial obstacles for that purpose.

In this context, they exchanged views also on the possibilities of providing humanitarian aid to the people of Artsakh.
