The Armenian authorities hope for a consensus with the opposition on the issue of holding early parliamentary elections, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the parliament's meeting on Wednesday.

According to the PM, they view the elections as a means of restoring public solidarity.

“Elections are a mechanism for resolving this issue, and an opportunity for the people to express themselves. Not only those of our citizens who have time to participate in government or opposition rallies but also everyone else could express their opinion,” Pashinyan said.

He also noted that political forces, including the authorities, must be guarantors that the elections will be free, transparent, and fair.

Pashinyan plans to meet with opposition representatives on this issue in the coming days.
