The second president of Armenia does not agree that the incumbent government enjoys considerable public support. Robert Kocharyan expressed such a view at Thursday’s press conference for Russian media, Sputnik-Armenia reports.

Speaking about the number of people gathered at the government rally on Monday, Kocharyan noted that the government had assembled people for three days, using all the administrative resources, and it managed to gather 20,000 people with great difficulty, which does not speak of strong support. "If we leave out those who gathered with the help of administrative resources and look only at those who really support the government, there were almost the same number of people on [Marshal] Baghramyan Avenue [across the parliament building]. The problem is that many people have mistrust and apathy towards everyone," he said.

Kocharyan believes that PM Nikol Pashinyan has the lowest popularity rating today, and no political party has such a low popularity rating in Armenia. "We [Armenia] have a unique situation for a post-Soviet country: there is a responsible opposition and an irresponsible government," he added.

Robert Kocharyan suggests taking into account not how many people support the opposition, but how many people support the government. At the same time, he expressed the opinion that any incident can be a trigger for consolidating the arena.
