Moscow might review the prices of natural gas due to change of market prices, but this doesn’t mean that Russia is terminating its contract [with Armenia-ed.]. This is what leading researcher of the Institute of Economics at the Russian Academy of Sciences, PhD in Economics Aza Mihranyan said during today’s Yerevan-Moscow teleconference.

According to her, a lot will depend on the speed at which the common natural gas market will be formed within the Eurasian Economic Union.

“If we’re talking about the major sectors for investments and industry in Armenia, of course, the sector is energy. The issues will emerge this year and will be sharper issues next year in the context of the start of implementation of the agreement between Armenia and the European Union which covers the regulation of exploitation of the nuclear power plant. Another issue is the solution to the problems with small hydroelectric power plants and electricity-producing capacities that need to be considered. Here it will be necessary to consider the opportunities for launching thermal production. Here we see a problem with the natural gas contract,” the economist noted.
