Lebanese security and army commanders should not allow roadblocks to ensure the safety of citizens and protesters, President Michel Aoun said in a statement following the high-level meeting, Reuters reported.

The meeting, chaired by President Michel Aoun and attended by Acting Prime Minister Hassan Diab, cabinet ministers, and security and finance officials, came after seven days of protests across the country. Demonstrators, outraged by the country's economic downturn, blocked roads with burning tires. The protests that began on Tuesday followed the fall of the Lebanese pound to more than 10,000 per dollar.

The meeting also decided to order security forces to hold accountable those who violate monetary law, including exchange offices, the statement said.
