Azerbaijan has long been "famous" for bribery of "necessary" persons, and has succeeded a lot in this.

One of the most notorious case is the bribery of former Italian MP and ex-MEP Luca Volonte. The investigation managed to prove that they had received half a million euros from two Azerbaijani politicians and sentenced the lover of black caviar and exotic carpets to 4 years in prison. The court recognized that Volonte abused his official powers to disrupt the adoption of the PACE report on political prisoners in Azerbaijan, back in 2013. True, the Italian parliamentarian was promised 10 million and was given several times less. But this does not stop other lovers of expensive gifts.

One of the Azerbaijani media published an interview with the bishop of the Apostolic Prefecture of the Roman Catholic Church in Azerbaijan, Vladimir Fekete. Of course, not having the original statements of the bishop, one would not like to accuse him of double standards and a subjective attitude unworthy of a clergyman, however, since the material has been published and there is no refutation, the bishop agrees with the point of view presented on his behalf. So.

At first, the author reminds the interlocutor of the assistance provided by Azerbaijan in the restoration work in the Vatican. This is by no means talk about cultural dialogue, and Armenian News - NEWS.am has previously written about how the Azerbaijani authorities are buying Italy's friendship. But apparently, in Baku, they considered that the friendship of clergy is directly proportional to the petrodollars spent on it.

“As I said, Azerbaijan is undoubtedly an example of peaceful coexistence of representatives of different peoples and different religions. This is due to two key factors: a tolerant attitude towards other religions, traditional for Azerbaijani self-awareness, and the state policy of multiculturalism, which is based on this glorious tradition of the people. It is this tradition that is being developed and strengthened in Azerbaijan,” the bishop says. Obviously, Fekete, who represents the Vatican in Azerbaijan for more than 10 years, does not read the media, he does not know about hundreds of captured Armenians, including women, terrible shots about atrocities against Armenians - starting with the pogroms and ending with the last war.

In response to the competently constructed question that in Karabakh during the period of its occupation by Armenia, many Muslim religious buildings were desecrated and destroyed, the bishop said: “This causes both regret and just indignation. There must be certain taboos in the mind of a person, which in many respects ensure what we call civilization. The desecration of religious monuments, places of worship, of course, belongs to these taboos. Those who have done this have already proved by their actions that they have nothing to do with civilization and culture. And it is all the sadder when such things are done by those who call themselves Christians, because Christ called not only not to commit evil themselves, but also not to provoke evil in others."

It is unacceptable when the bishop and the representative of the Vatican act as the ideological mouthpiece of one of the parties to the conflict, accusing the other of committing criminal acts. Moreover, we did not hear from the bishop the words of condemnation of the atrocities committed against the Armenians, due to which the conflict actually began.

Either the bishop's words are incorrectly stated, and a refutation will be published, or the Vatican should seriously think about the behavior of Vladimir Fekete.
