Georgian border police, together with the Ninotsminda regional prosecutor's office, have arrested two local residents—a father and a son—on charges of human trafficking, News Georgia reports.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, as per the respective investigation, the two defendants had promised well-paid jobs to three Armenian citizens in 2015 and 2016, and helped them gather the necessary documents and move to Georgia.

Then they had taken these Armenian nationals to a cattle farm in a village of Ninotsminda, after which they had taken away the legal documents of these Armenian nationals, threatened to exact revenge upon revenge, and had forced them to work for free.

The police found out about this crime after one of these Armenians citizens had managed to escape. He tried to illegally cross into the Armenian state border, but he was detained by the border guards.

A criminal case has been launched under the Georgian Criminal Code article on human trafficking. This offense carries a sentence of 12 to 15 years in prison.
