Representative of the Office for Economic Research of the Bureau of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun political party, economist Suren Parsyan posted the following on his Facebook page:

“Armenia has natural gas resources for three weeks — whom will the supply of Armenia’s natural gas through Azerbaijan favor?

Today the media reported that Russian natural gas will be supplied to Armenian consumers through the territory of Azerbaijan during the three-week period of planned preventive and repair works for the North Caucasus-Transcaucasia natural gas pipeline. On March 16, Gazprom Export LLC and the State Petrol Company of Azerbaijan signed a short-term contract for the transfer of Russia natural gas through the territory of Azerbaijan.

Let us note that Armenia has enough natural gas resources for three weeks won’t need to import natural gas from Azerbaijan, if, of course, the deal isn’t extended for a longer term.

Interestingly, the government of Armenia, which is in martial law, still hasn’t responded to this decision and hasn’t specified to what extent this decision meets the interests of Armenia. As a result, the only thing left to do is to assume that the motive for this deal is the cession of the Nakhchivan-Azerbaijan sovereign road under the name of unblocking of Armenia’s infrastructures — something that the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem is seeking to achieve at any price. This short-term deal can also serve as a signal for Georgia.”
