The authorities of 21 American states have filed a lawsuit against the administration of President Joe BidenЖ they demand to cancel the decision to stop the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada to the United States.

The statement of claim was filed with the federal district court for the Southern District of Texas, according to its electronic database, TASS reported.

Biden signed at least 15 decrees since taking office in January. Among them was an order to cancel the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. The plaintiffs insist that the new American leader exceeded his authority when he made the decision. They demand that the corresponding decree be declared unconstitutional and canceled.

The initiators of the filing of the claim are the Attorneys General of the states of Texas and Montana. They noted that due to the cancellation of the pipeline construction, at least 12,000 people in the states of Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas will not be able to get jobs. The governments of many states will be deprived of potential profits. According to the plaintiffs, the question of the construction of Keystone XL should have been agreed with the US Congress.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has earlier said that Ottawa is disappointed with Biden's decision regarding Keystone XL. The pipeline was supposed to allow delivering more than 800 thousand barrels of oil per day from Canada to refineries in the American states of Texas and Louisiana.
