Former Ambassador of Armenia to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia Tigran Mkrtchyan posted the following on his Facebook page:

“My diplomatic service in the Baltic states over the past five years has drawn to an end. Over the next few weeks, I will have farewell meetings with the officials of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia and the Armenians living in those countries. Simultaneously, two programs in the stage of completion (second, enlarged, illustrated publication of Book of Tragedies by Gregory of Narek with an audio book in Lithuanian (read by three well-known actors) and the Estonian version of the fairy tales by Armenian writer Hovhannes Tumanyan) will be presented as the latest initiatives.

Due to the restrictions conditioned by COVID-19, the concert featuring performances of certain parts of Tigran Mansurian’s “Requiem” and the Liturgy of Komitas (the concert was supposed to be held in Kaunas, Lithuania on April 17), as well as the performance of the full Liturgy of Komitas by the Estonian State Male Choir will be canceled. The presentation of the Latvian version of Franz Werfel’s “Forty Days of Musa Dagh” novel was also postponed and later canceled due to the restrictions. Of course, all three events (in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) were going to be dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

I will publish my farewell message later. Until then, I would like to ask everyone to not make speculations. Diplomatic work is a service. Every mission has a beginning and end. I would like to thank all those who highly appreciate the work I have done and the achievements that have been made for further deepening of Armenia’s relations with the Baltic states and protection of Armenia’s interests. I express gratitude to all of my supporters and the heads of Armenian communities. I wish newly appointed Ambassador Armen Martirosyan all the best and more success in his mission.”
