YEREVAN. – The matter of extending the embargo on Turkish goods for another six months is under discussion. Deputy minister of economy of Armenia, Avag Avanesyan, told this to reporters Monday

"It is a bit difficult to assess the economic losses [of Armenia] as such. In any case, we do not see a catastrophic blow at the moment. The negative effects at us [in Armenia] due to COVID are so great that they seem to silence the remaining possible effects; that is, sometimes it is very difficult to say whether the consumption of something fell due to COVID or the embargo. Our assessments are that we have the potential to produce, as well as to import from other countries—at least at comparable prices—, the products toward which the embargo has been imposed," he said.

And touching upon the question as to whether there is an interest among Armenians abroad in terms of investing in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), Avanesyan gave a positive response. "Moreover, some people are already taking concrete steps so that the companies that suffered losses during the [recent Artsakh] war but can continue to operate on other level terms can continue to operate, can be able to recover if they are given some support. We are currently in relevant work with them to help their efforts so that the economic life in Artsakh is restored as soon as possible," the deputy minister added.
