Serious problems with human rights protection have sparked in Armenia’s Syunik Province, and Armenia needs to give a strict response to Azerbaijan’s actions in this regard. The Human Rights Defender (Ombudsman) of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, said this at Thursday sitting of the National Assembly, during the latter’s discussion of the report on the work done by the Ombudsman's office in 2020.

The Ombudsman particularly brought an example of how Azerbaijani servicemen were installing a post above the Khnatsakh village a few days ago and mentioned the incident related to the Armenian shepherd.

“I believe Armenia’s response is disproportionate. The government needs to actively respond to all this and show the world what is going on. Azerbaijan is spreading information stating that everything is fine, they are positioning and will stay at their posts. Isn’t this a direct threat to our population,” the Ombudsman said.

Tatoyan also stated that Armenia needs to give proportionate evaluations, adding that this is in the interests of Armenia’s citizens and the state.
