By the order of Prosecutor General of Armenia Artur Davtyan, the Prosecutor General’s Office has set up a task force to increase effectiveness of prosecutorial oversight over registration and record-registration of publications, citizens’ reports and alarms about possible electoral crimes during the organizing and holding of the snap elections of the National Assembly of June 20, 2021, as well as consideration of reports and preliminary investigation of the materials to be prepared on the basis of those reports and the launched criminal cases.

The Prosecutor General’s Office told Armenian News-NEWS.am that, taking into account the imperative to hold the elections without violations and in line with democratic principles, the task force will be personally led by the Prosecutor General of Armenia.

The task force will conduct large-scale monitoring of the publications of mass media regarding electoral processes, explore the reports on electoral crimes that may be committed during the organizing and holding of the snap elections, will support the structural subdivisions and prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office to consider the reports, prepare materials and conduct prosecutorial oversight over preliminary investigation of the launched criminal cases.

To ensure effectiveness of the activities, the Prosecutor General’s Office will soon launch a hotline to quickly and effectively respond to alarms from entities involved in the elections.

The task force will work closely with the Central Electoral Commission, local and international organizations that will be observing the elections, other law-enforcement authorities and media outlets that will provide coverage of the elections.
