YEREVAN. – Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Prime Minister's Office informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Pashinyan informed the Russian President about the current situation as a result of the Azerbaijani armed forces’ incursion into the sovereign territory of Armenia—Syunik Province.

Also, the acting PM informed President Putin that he has instructed to formally petition to the Collective Security Treaty Organization to start consultations in accordance with Article 2 of the treaty procedures.

Putin considered the further escalation of tension in the region inadmissible, and expressed hope for the rapid stabilization of the situation and the creation of necessary conditions for the quick stabilization of the situation and the implementation of the agreements reached by the trilateral statements of November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021. Also, the Russian side reaffirmed its readiness to continue active mediation efforts to ensure stability in the region.

The interlocutors agreed that this situation needs to be resolved by the return of Azerbaijani troops to their starting positions.
