Israel launched a series of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, killing at least one Palestinian and injuring several others.

Explosions shook Gaza City, and orange flashes lit up the predawn sky. Airstrikes were also reported in the central city of Deir el-Balah and the southern city of Khan Younis.

Residents examined the ruins of at least five private houses destroyed in Khan Younis. There were also strong airstrikes on the Al-Saftawi shopping street in Gaza City, AP reported.

The Israeli military said they attacked at least four homes of Hamas commanders, targeting military infrastructure as well as an arms depot at the home of a Hamas fighter in Gaza City.

According to him, the shrapnel ended up in his family's house next door, killing his aunt, injuring his daughter and two cousins. A spokesman for a nearby hospital confirmed the death of the woman and said that at least 10 people were injured.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected calls from the Biden administration to end the operation, which killed hundreds of people. This is the first public rift between two close allies since the outbreak of hostilities last week and could complicate international efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
