YEREVAN. – The opposition Bright Armenia faction of the National Assembly (NA) wants to convene a special sitting of the NA Thursday in connection with the possible signing of a new document—with Azerbaijan—announced by the Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Edmon Marukyan, chairman of the opposition Bright Armenia Party (BAP) and head of its NA faction, on Thursday told about this to reporters in the parliament.

"Right now we are compiling the text of the statement which will serve as a basis for convening a special session. The content of the text of the statement will be approximately the following: under the RA [Republic of Armenia] Constitution and the Law on International Treaties, in case of signing any document related to politics, the military, as well as human rights, the mentioned document must be ratified at the RA parliament. Second, another document has been prepared behind the back of the RA people. Neither the MPs of the parliament, nor, I believe, most of the members of the government, nor any other elected official has any information on its content," Marukyan said.

He informed that he talked also with Arman Abovyan from the opposition Prosperous Armenia faction in the NA, and they were discussing the matter of convening this sitting.

Marukyan added that the acting prime minister must present the content of this new document in detail, noting that Pashinyan did not do this at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the interim government. "Perceptions of the RA's interests may be different for us, for the Prime Minister, and for other forces. Therefore, this document, which is ‘in the interests of the RA,’ must be presented in detail, at least for the discussion of the parliament, after which it will be decided whether it is in the interests of the RA or not. If something good is being done, how can it be concealed? Let the people know, be happy," said the BAP leader.
