President of the Yerkrapah Union of Volunteer Land Defenders, deputy of the My Step faction of the National Assembly of Armenia Sasun Mikayelyan has decided to not run in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections and has issued a statement. The statement reads as follows:

“Due to the concern that the tense political situation in the post-war period will become more tense, I have refrained from being active in politics. I realize that volunteer land defenders would become entangled in domestic politics after hearing any complaints or criticism, and this could entail unpredictable consequences. I have considered the holding of snap elections the only way to solve the political situation and help the people form a new government, and I have done my best to contribute to this over the past months.

As a person who fought and was a commander during the victorious battle for the liberation of Artsakh and as President of the Yerkrapah Union of Volunteer Land Defenders, I don’t accept coming to grips with the defeat in the recent war. Due to this and other circumstances. I have decided to not run in the snap parliamentary elections to be held on June 20, 2021 and to remain loyal to my people, the volunteer land defenders and my calling.”
