Russia is a huge unique resource that Armenia has but does not use. Such an opinion was expressed by the Director of the EurAsEC Institute and Russian analyst Vladimir Lepekhin, speaking at a forum in Yerevan.

But according to him, sometimes the opposite can be seen, too. The analyst stated that there is a split in Russia as well. "However, more than 80% of the population considers Armenia, as well as Belarus, to be the closest ally, and this is obvious and we all see it.

This is the main evidence that the political reform implies the strengthening of relations between Armenia and the Russian Federation. Today a new military alliance is being formed between Russia and Armenia. It is important that such a strong alliance is formed also in economy and other spheres life.

(…). Now we are talking about the statehood of Armenia. And personally, first of all, I see the Russian Federation as the guarantor of that statehood, sincere friends of Armenia in the Russian people and government—as it has been for the last 200 years. It is already well understood in Karabakh [(Artsakh)], and it is important that they understand [it] in Armenia as well," Lepekhin emphasized.

"Armenia today makes a choice not between the West and Russia, but between non-existence and survival, whose guarantor can only be sovereign Russia," Vladimir Lepekhin concluded.
