Slovakia has authorized the use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, which has not yet been approved by the EU regulator, Reuters reported.

The Slovak government has asked Health Minister Vladimir Lengvarsky to make available a vaccine against COVID-19 by June 7.

Slovakia has 200,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, but until now the country has not approved its use.

Hungary is the only EU country to use Sputnik V, which has not yet received approval from the European Medicines Agency.

Slovakia's deal to buy 2 million Sputnik V images, orchestrated by then Prime Minister Igor Matovic, sparked a political crisis in March that led to the resignation of the government.
