YEREVAN. – On May 27, officers from the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia detained—from near the Yerevan customs terminal—S.A., an Iranian citizen and a truck driver, as well as driver A.M. and passenger R.Gh. of a car on suspicion of drug smuggling, as well as illegal acquisition, possession, transportation, and sale of large quantities of drugs.

About 995 grams of opium—which was smuggled in by the abovementioned truck driver—was found hidden in and confiscated from the aforesaid car, the NSS informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

These persons were detained along the lines of the criminal case that has been opened into this incident, and the substance that was found was sent for forensic chemical examination.

Charges have been brought against then, and it has been decided to remand them in custody.
