Seven EU countries - Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Poland, Croatia and the Czech Republic - began issuing vaccination certificates from June 1, which are designed to facilitate free movement within the EU, the European Commission (EC) said in a statement.

As the EC noted, from today a technical system has been launched that allows the use of vaccination certificates.

The EU certificate has been proposed by the European Commission for the resumption of safe travel this summer. It will be free, secure, and accessible to everyone. Available digitally or on paper, it will be proof that a person has been vaccinated against COVID-19, tested negative or recovered from infection, the EC noted.

The green pass system is expected to be fully operational by July 1, when the holiday season begins in most EU countries.
