Our task is to support our farmers so that engaging in agriculture is not a torment that does not bring the expected result, but it be a planned activity the results of which can be planned in advance, expect what to get. Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this Friday during his meeting in Geghanist village of Armenia’s Ararat region.

"There is the following problem in our agriculture: that the year we do not have a harvest is a difficult year for us. The year we have a harvest is still a problem because there is a lot of harvest, prices fall, and we get less income from the same harvest. The solution to this dilemma is planned work, and such an opportunity is given to us by 'intensive agriculture,'" he said.

Pashinyan noted that they have sharply reduced the import of brandy alcohol in recent years. “We did this first to ensure the high quality of Armenian brandy (…). Second, with that, we resolve the issue of enlarging vineyards.

We have introduced an agricultural insurance program. It assumes that if necessary, 50 to 60 percent of the expenses are paid by the government," he added.

The Acting Prime Minister informed that there are various agricultural programs in Armenia when low-interest or interest-free loans are given to the farmers. "We call on the farmers to switch to drip irrigation. We will implement a program that the farms that will switch to drip irrigation will not pay for water fee for five years," Nikol Pashinyan added.
