UN human rights experts have demanded that Canada and the Vatican conduct an investigation after the discovery of a mass grave of the remains of Indian children, DW reported.
The authors of the statement noted that they are talking about large-scale violations of human rights committed against children who were brought up in a resident school.
The statement also highlighted the need to conduct a similar investigation in all other Aboriginal boarding schools in Canada, examine allegations of torture and bullying, and hold still-living offenders accountable.
UN experts also recalled the victims' right to receive all information about the violations committed.
In late May, a mass grave was discovered in western Canada. The remains of 215 children were found on the grounds of the former residential school, which operated from 1890 to 1978 and was a kind of re-education camp for indigenous people.
