Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), responded to a letter from President Armen Sarkissian of Armenia regarding the need for the immediate return of all Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held by Azerbaijan.

The ICRC chief assured that the issues raised by the Armenian President are under the full attention of him and the organization he heads.

Noting that the ICRC has been active in the region since 1992, Maurer said in particular that ever since the first days of hostilities that began in September 2020, thus organization has provided humanitarian assistance and expressed readiness to carry out further activities within the framework of the humanitarian mandate provided to the ICRC by the international community.
