US and Turkish Defense Ministers Lloyd J. Austin III and Hulusi Akar discussed Afghanistan.

According to the Pentagon, during the phone talks, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation and the maintenance of the diplomatic presence in Afghanistan.

Austin reaffirmed the importance of the long-standing relationship between the United States and Turkey in the field of defense and thanked the minister for his continued communication and cooperation on peace and security issues.
