YEREVAN. – The issue of returning the Armenian captives in Azerbaijan is always at the focus of Russia's priority attention. Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin told about this to reporters on Tuesday.

He reminded that Russia has welcomed the recent return of 15 more Armenian captives, noting that this was a step in the right direction. "It is known that Russia has done and is doing everything possible from the beginning to make this happen, and the respective movement has moved forward.

A very big role was played here personally by General Rustam Muradov, the commander of our peacekeeping contingent [in the region]. The President, the Minister of Defense, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country are [also] engaged in that.

It is not always easy, and it requires serious effort. Also, I do not think that the recent exchange [of Armenian captives in exchange for maps of minefields] would have been possible if there were no preparatory, very significant work of the Russian side, the Russian peacekeepers. This work is always at the focus attention, the focus of efforts, and the work will continue," the Russian ambassador added.
