Armenian News - NEWS.am presents the daily digest of Armenia-related top news as of June 23:

  • The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia reported that votes will be recounted at more than 70 polling stations.

Applications for recounting votes were made at 27 polling stations. Only three applications were submitted by the competent authorities.

Thus, the number of votes for the ‘Armenia’ bloc led by ex-president Robert Kocharyan grew by 10 times after a recount at polling station 23/47 in Vanadzor.

Meanwhile, the 'Armenia bloc' has also received 258 votes at polling station 35/17 in Kapan.

  • Azerbaijan is ready to work with Armenia on a big peace agreement, Azerbaijani FM Jeyhun Bayramov said in an interview with TRT.

"We believe that this is realistically the first time after the obtaining of independence by Armenia and Azerbaijan when our countries have a unique chance to normalize their relations," he said. "This is the first time when there is no fact of occupation."

"As a result of this war, Azerbaijan 'restored its territorial integrity based on 4 UN Security Council resolutions.

"Four out of seven occupied regions were liberated by military operations and three were based on these trilateral statements."

"Azerbaijan is ready to work with Armenia on a big peace agreement between our two countries and we are offering this," Bayramov said adding that they expect the same level of political will from Armenia.

  • The trial of Armenian captives Lyudvig Mkrtchyan and Alyosha Khosrovyan continues in Baku, Azerbaijani media reported.

In the framework of a concocted criminal case, Mkrtchyan and Khosrovyan are accused of absurd crimes.

Azerbaijani authorities have put them on trial for their participation in the first Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) war in the early 1990s. Similar “charges” have been brought against all Armenians who took part in the war.

  • Russia's contribution to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)] conflict was decisive, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh was stopped with a decisive contribution from Russia," he noted.

Putin also said that Russian peacekeepers reliably guarantee peace and security in the region, and are doing much to improve the humanitarian situation, demine the territories, and restore social infrastructure in Artsakh.

  • Two boys have suffered an electric shock in Yerevan - one of them, 11, died in hospital.

The electric shock occurred at the power distribution point on their street.

The police are preparing materials on the fact.

The two boys are neighbors.

  • As of Wednesday morning, 100 new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Armenia, and the total number of these cases has reached 224,430 in the country.

Also, one more death from COVID-19 was registered, making the respective total 4,503 cases.

The number of people who have recovered over the past one day is 48, the total respective number so far is 216,230.
