Lawyer Erik Aleksanyan has reacted to the explanation of the Prosecutor General's Office in connection with the criminal prosecution against Dr. Armen Charchyan, a member of the "Armenia" bloc—led by second President Robert Kocharyan.
"I got familiarized with the explanation of the Prosecutor's Office in connection with criminal prosecution initiated against Mr. Charchyan. (…).
I treat this statement of the prosecutor's office with a sincere smile. I am glad that the Prosecutor's Office finally accepted the fact that as an unknown source, the ‘Baghramyan 26’ [i.e., the address of the presidential office]] Telegram channel cannot be a legal reason to initiate a criminal case.
However, we urge the prosecutor's office not to lie to the public as if the reason for initiating a criminal case in this case was the discovery—by the body conducting the proceedings during the exercise of its powers—of data on evidence of a crime; that is an absolute lie.
(…) in this case, the inspection actions of the body conducting the proceedings has in no case become a reason to initiate a criminal case (…)," Aleksanyan wrote, in particular.
