Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has approved an amnesty proposal for more than 5,000 Iranian prisoners on the occasion of the national holiday, Tasnim writes.

At the suggestion of the head of the judicial system Ebrahim Raisi, Ayatollah Khamenei agreed to pardon or commute the sentences of 5,156 Iranian convicts.

The amnesty was announced in honor of the anniversary of the birth of Imam Reza, and in honor of Iranian Judicial Week.

Art. 110 of the Constitution gives the spiritual leader of Iran the right to pardon or commute the sentence of convicted persons on the recommendation of the head of the judiciary.

However, the amnesty does not apply to certain categories of convicts, including those convicted of participating in drug smuggling, arms trafficking, kidnapping, acid attacks, rape, armed robbery, bribery, embezzlement, money forgery, money laundering, undermining the economy, and alcohol smuggling. drinks and organized smuggling of goods.
