The French authorities are actively increasing the pace of the fight against radical Islamism and have closed 650 centers of such propaganda in the country since 2017, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin and French Interior Minister Delegate Marlène Schiappa told Le Figaro.

Never before in France has the government taken such large-scale measures against radical Islamism. Over the past four years, a dozen such associations have been dissolved, three times more than under the country's two previous presidents. 24,000 different checks were carried out, as a result of which 650 establishments visited by fundamentalists were closed.

In addition, since November last year, 89 places of worship have been checked, which aroused suspicion among the intelligence services - and a third of them are now either closed or measures have been taken against them that do not allow them to conduct activities harmful to the country, Gérald Darmanin noted.

According to Schiappa, the centers of Islamist propaganda are changing their location after the authorities began to put pressure on mosques and even on sports clubs through which radical ideas were spread.
