Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan today received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin.

As reported the National Assembly of Armenia, Arshakyan congratulated the Ambassador on the parliamentary elections held in Russia, attaching importance to the positive impact that the holding of free and transparent elections has on the development of a state.

During the meeting, the parties touched upon the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Expressing gratitude for the support provided by the Russian side, Arshakyan spoke out about the urgent settlement of humanitarian issues that emerged after the 44-day war and emphasized that Azerbaijan needs to return the prisoners of war and other detainees, in accordance with the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. In his turn, Ambassador Kopirkin stated that the issue is in the Russian government’s focus.

In regard to the two countries’ allied and strategic relations, the deputy parliamentary speaker attached importance to the role of parliamentary diplomacy and, in this context, stated that the National Assembly of Armenia will set up delegations to the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

The parties also touched upon the future activities of the Interparliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assembly of Armenia and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

Since the year 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Russia, the parties also discussed issues related to the agenda of events.
