Deputy Prime Minister of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Liu He, discussed lifting the sanctions and customs duties with the US representative in trade negotiations, Catherine Tai, RIA Novosti reported citing China Central Television.

During the talks, Liu also explained Beijing’s position on China’s economic development model. Representatives of China and the United States expressed the main concerns of their countries and agreed to address them through dialogue.

On July 23, it became known that China has imposed sanctions on former US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and six other high-ranking Americans. The move was in response to the inclusion of seven senior Chinese officials on the US Treasury blacklist. The reason for such measures by Washington was the arrests of foreign businessmen in Hong Kong.

On July 24, White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said China’s sanctions will not stop the United States. The US government, she said, is ready to continue its policy of restrictions against Beijing.
