Political interests are disturbing the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict from reaching an agreement, but the representatives of the confessions have advantages in the negotiations, based on faith in God, common moral values and confidence in each other. This is what Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia declared during the meeting with Grand Mufti of the Caucasus Allahshukur Pashazadeh said in regard to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during a meeting in Moscow, RIA Novosti reports.

The leader of the Russian Orthodox Church is holding meetings with Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and Grand Mufti of the Caucasus in Moscow on October 12-13, and the meeting on October 13 will be a trilateral meeting.

“If we’re talking about settlement of the military conflict, the political factor exists, and when the factor prevails, negotiations become more difficult,” Patriarch Kirill said.

According to him, religious leaders have an advantage when discussing such issues since “they have a common ground — faith in God and a system of moral values”.

“We have known each other for over 30 years, and there has never been an incident or topic that will split us or cause tension. We have always found solutions to our issues,” Patriarch Kirill said as he addressed the leader of Azerbaijani Muslims.

Patriarch Kirill had held a meeting with Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II earlier.
