Diplomatic and political ties between Iran and Armenia have always been very good. Recent events in the region, however, force us to further develop these contacts. Visiting Iranian Prosecutor General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri stated this after his meeting in Yerevan with Armenian Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan.

According to Montazeri, the cooperation between Iran and Armenia should be at the highest level and there are preconditions for that.

"As Iranian officials have stated, it is necessary to take serious steps to develop relations between our countries.

Armenia and Iran have confirmed that the terrorists spotted on our borders are by no means tolerable. We [i.e., Iran] maintain good-neighborly ties with neighboring countries, and we hope that they will understand this position of Iran before the issue escalates.

The terrorists must disappear as soon as possible. We can take drastic steps, but I hope that before that, the neighboring countries themselves will start resolving the issue," the Iranian Prosecutor General stressed.
