The trilateral task force led by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan is only discussing the issue of unblocking of previously operating roads. This is what Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan said during today’s question-and-answer session with government officials in parliament, responding to the question of deputy of the opposition “Armenia” alliance Artur Khachatryan.

According to Grigoryan, the opening of roads is not discussed since it doesn’t derive from the joint statement signed on January 11, 2021.

“The task force is currently discussing the opening of a railway along the length of the southern border of the former USSR, particularly between Yerevan, Nakhchivan and Meghri which will later extend to the east. Construction of a road via the same route is not discussed since, I repeat, we are acting within the scope of the statement signed on January 11,” Grigoryan clarified, adding that, overall, there is no common vision for the unblocking of roads and that the unblocking of the Vardenis-Martakert road isn’t discussed at all.
