The air defense troops of Armenia will be used in accordance with the procedure established by the government. Deputy Defense Minister Arman Sargsyan said this during the debates on the bill on making an addition to the law "On State Border" at Thursday’s parliament session.

"In case of a threat to Armenia's security or when carrying out any hostile action against Armenia, the air defense troops have the right to escort and force the aircraft or other flying device to land at airports or other corresponding areas. And if the aircraft or other flying device continues the mentioned operations, the units of the air defense troops destroy the mentioned plane or other flying device," the deputy minister said.

"Thus, as a result of the [aforesaid] addition, it is envisaged that the government will regulate the procedure of air defense and use of weapons and military equipment by the military aviation forces to neutralize the threats of terrorist acts in the airspace of the state border of Armenia while protecting the state border of Armenia in the airspace, the circle of officials authorized to make decisions on their use," Sargsyan explained.
