The issue of determining the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan cannot be resolved without Russia's participation, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said in an interview with RBC television.

He explained that "from the first day" since the end of the last Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) war last fall, problems have arisen between the two countries regarding the establishment of their border, and as to precisely where it runs along. Sarkissian stressed that the Azerbaijani side uses virtual maps in this regard, whereas, in his opinion, the actual border should be determined through ex-Soviet Union maps.

"Otherwise, the parties—first of all, the Azerbaijani side—use the maps of Google, you do not know what, in different places," Sarkissian added.

The Armenian President noted that in that case, anyone with computer programming skills can "draw" the border anywhere.

"In a word, they are virtual maps, whereas the real maps…After all, we have a history, after all, a shared history in the Russian Empire, in the Soviet Union," he stressed.

According to Sarkissian, difficulties have arisen in connection with determining this border—and in particular, with the villages that have ended up on this border, as well as with the territories belonging to companies.
