The Yerevan court of general jurisdiction today convened an urgent court hearing over the case of Dr. Armen Charchyan—the imprisoned MP of the opposition "Armenia" Faction in the National Assembly and former director of Izmirlian Medical Center of Yerevan.

Earlier, his attorney Erik Aleksanyan had informed that the medical commission has already been set up.

The Criminal Court of Appeal had satisfied the appeal of the Prosecutor General’s Office against the decision to release Charchyan on bail. Afterwards, Charchyan went to the penitentiary institution at his own initiative and was arrested, after which he was transferred to a civic hospital due to worsening of his health condition. On Aug. 24, Charchyan suffered an acute stroke. He has severe diabetes and takes 92 pills of insulin, which is simply incompatible with his arrest, and this incompatibility is affirmed under a government decision.

Charchyan is charged under Article 154.2 of the Criminal Code—that is, giving bribes to voters, taking bribes, violating the ban on charity during elections, or obstructing the exercise of a voter's free will.
