Conscripts need to undergo checkups in advance in Armenia. This is what Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan said during today’s discussion on the draft state budget for 2022 held as part of the joint session of parliamentary standing committees.

According to Tatoyan, the health problems of conscripts need to be solved before the start of military service.

“One of the main directions for activities of the Office of the Human Rights Defender is the emphasis on the solution to the issues related to protection of the rights of servicemen and free medical services, and this particularly concerns previously demobilized citizens,” Tatoyan said, adding that he proposes to consider the compatibility of diseases of conscripts with military service in a complex manner.

“Another point is the solution to the housing issue for servicemen and persons equaled to them. It turns out that an officer with 20 and more years of experience doesn’t have an apartment and lives on rent. Also, the compensation doesn’t cover the payment for rent,” Tatoyan said.
