They have returned from Chakaten about an hour ago, the enemy’s heavy equipment was working; 10-15 armed people were monitoring the process. The mayor of Armenia’s Chakaten village, Ara Harutyunyan, told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am Sunday night, referring to the National Security Service (NSS) statement about the setting up of an Azerbaijani customs checkpoint near their village as of tonight.

"I arrived in Kapan [city], in an hour the fellow villagers had come down following me, they had already seen 100-120 soldiers in the area, some of whom were masked, they had already set up barricades on the right and left sides of the road on the way to Chakaten village; so, [Armenian] trucks, military vehicles can no longer pass through that section. A citizen passing through that section 20 minutes ago was met by NSS officers and escorted the car to the Chakaten. That is, the same story was repeated as in Vorotan [village]; even worse, and the road is already closed for us. There are six villages there, we have troops. No one called, came from the authorities, not even from the provincial hall. How long can I give a guarantee to our fellow villagers?" he said.

The head of Chakaten said that on Saturday it was calm in the area as of 2pm, but the Azerbaijani customs checkpoint construction work had started at 4pm.

"In 24 hours, they [the Azerbaijanis] built everything, closed [it], ‘washed their hands,’ and left, whereas we are still thinking of an alternative road. It is impossible to through the forest road, you cannot even climb on foot. I do not even know how I will go [back] to the village, we have children who have to go to school," he added.

Earlier, the NSS informed that as of 12am Monday, the Azerbaijani side will set up a checkpoint to carry out border and customs control on the now-Azerbaijani-controlled section of the Kapan-Chakaten motorway.
