At 1 p.m. the Azerbaijani Armed Forces launched hostilities and tried to escalate the situation along the entire length of the eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This is what Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan said during an interview aired on a news program (Lurer) in Armenia today.

“The combat operations continue as we speak. The Ministry of Defense is taking steps to stabilize the situation,” Grigoryan said.

According to him, today’s escalation is also linked to the fact that Azerbaijan is using additional armored vehicles and armed forces. “They [the Azerbaijanis] tried to use the armed forces of Azerbaijan located in the sovereign territory of Armenia. Since the attack took place on the sovereign territory of Armenia, we are applying to the Russian Federation with the call to protect the territorial integrity of Armenia within the scope of the 1997 Treaty between Armenia and the Russian Federation and within the scope of the logic of fulfilling the mutual obligations that are part of the Treaty,” Armen Grigoryan added.

According to him, this is a verbal application, which will be followed by a written procedure. “Armenia anticipates the support of the Russian Federation and the opportunity to restore the territorial integrity of Armenia,” Grigoryan said.
